A day for sightseeing as the bus slid out of a chilly and dark Queenstown. Destination Milford Sound. The early morning sun gradually made its way over the snow capped mountain tops and all began to realize why the South Island is regarded as having some of the most picturesque landscapes on earth. A stop at Te Anau saw a forced changed of plans. Unfortunately the road to Milford Sound was closed due to icy roads. Scout master Andrew Melville our very own “Bí Ulamh” to the rescue. Within minutes a Boat Journey to Lake Manapouri and a tour of the electrifying hydro power station was organized. Some smashing scenery and an informative visit eased our disappointment. Back to Queenstown for dinner and a restful evening.
